Czech Members of Parliament will begin debating the proposed state budget for 2024 on Wednesday. The first reading will focus on approving the budget's key parameters, including revenue, expenditures, the deficit, and its financing. The proposed deficit of 386 billion Czech crowns is 76 billion crowns higher than the deficit approved for the current year. The government intends to cover the majority of this deficit by increasing state debt. The opposition parties plan to call for the budget to be returned to the government for revision. However, the governing coalition currently holds enough votes to ensure its passage.
