French authorities have imposed a curfew in the city of Lille, in northern France, and surrounding municipalities including Douai, Wattignies, and Denain, in response to violent protests over the weekend. The curfew prohibits individuals under the age of 18 from being on the streets between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and is currently in effect for tonight and tomorrow. These demonstrations, occurring across French cities, were sparked by government policies and the rising cost of living, escalating into widespread unrest. Thousands of protestors were arrested as demonstrations devolved into serious public disorder. Prime Minister Lecornu urged the implementation of local curfews, and a ban on public gatherings and demonstrations was already in place today in Marseille. The situation follows a weekend of escalating tensions and violence throughout France.
