Following weekend unrest spurred by protests against government policies and the rising cost of living, France experienced a relatively quiet night as curfews went into effect across several cities. The restrictions, implemented in cities including Paris, Lille, Lyon, Nice and Bordeaux, primarily targeted minors but were broadened to include all citizens in certain areas of Paris, specifically around Place de la République and Les Halles. Authorities reported high compliance with the curfew, supported by a significant police presence. Lyon briefly saw unrest as a rally in support of business owners and riot police was joined by an extremist right-wing group, leading to clashes. Bordeaux maintains a curfew until October 26th in areas significantly damaged during October 17th looting, while Lille’s curfew remains in place for another night, extending to surrounding towns like Douai, Wattignies and Denain.
