Colombian Representative Jennifer Pedraza has proposed allocating $1.4 billion to formalize workers in public hospitals. The funds would be used to finance the technical studies required by State Social Enterprises (Empresas Sociales del Estado) to determine which positions can be incorporated into their permanent staff. According to the representative, this is a necessary step to improve labor conditions. Currently, 71% of these workers are employed through service provision arrangements, lacking the benefits of formal employment. The proposal aims to address this precarious situation and provide greater job security and rights to healthcare workers throughout Colombia. Formalizing these positions will ensure better working conditions and improve the quality of public healthcare services.
