Actress Christina Applegate, 54, of the United States, has revealed she may not have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), as her doctor believes she was initially misdiagnosed. She shared this update on the "MeSsy" podcast, which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, another American actress who has lived with MS for 25 years. Applegate originally announced her MS diagnosis in 2021 and continues to experience MS-related symptoms, despite the uncertainty surrounding her condition. According to researcher Marwa Kaisey from a hospital in Los Angeles, misdiagnoses are not uncommon with MS due to the varying ways the disease presents and its different forms. The Hersenstichting (Netherlands Brain Foundation) reports approximately 38,600 people with MS were known to general practitioners in the Netherlands in 2023. Applegate expressed feeling “disappointed” and “confused” about the possible misdiagnosis, stating she is now "back to square one" in understanding her health issues.
