Researchers at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Jakarta have confirmed that debris found in a palm oil plantation near Sampit, Kalimantan, originates from a Chinese rocket. Professor Thomas Djamaluddin, an astrophysicist at BRIN, identified the fragments as belonging to a rocket body. The debris fell onto the palm oil plantation area, causing some concern among local residents. BRIN is currently analyzing the recovered fragments to determine the exact type of rocket and the circumstances of its fall. This incident highlights the challenges of managing space debris re-entry and the potential risks to populated areas. Further investigation will be conducted to assess any potential hazards and inform future space activities.
