On October 13, 2026, the Director General of the Agency for the Regulation of the Electricity Sector (ARSEL) in Cameroon led discussions with SOCADEL regarding the Transitional Electricity Access Program (PATE). The meeting focused on addressing irregular electricity connections, safeguarding consumer rights, and ensuring billing transparency for customers in urban and peri-urban areas. Key areas of evaluation included the involvement of local authorities and consumer associations, as well as data sharing with the regulator. ARSEL will provide on-site support to SOCADEL to guarantee a collaborative and ethical approach during implementation. The Agency aims to closely monitor the pilot phase to ensure the PATE is deployed fairly and transparently, reinforcing its commitment to equitable, transparent, and quality electricity access for all in Cameroon. This initiative seeks to resolve issues impacting many households across Cameroon.
