Seventeen-year-old Caden Chau of Calgary founded MakeAble, an initiative focused on producing low-cost assistive devices. Utilizing a used 3D printer initially purchased for $50, Chau has created over 600 assistive devices that have reached over 400,000 people globally. His work addresses a critical need for affordable healthcare solutions by leveraging 3D printing technology. Chau’s dedication to health equity earned him the Health for All Award for Health Equity. Beyond device creation, he further supports his community by offering peer tutoring to fellow students in Calgary facing academic difficulties. MakeAble demonstrates the power of youth-led innovation in tackling global accessibility challenges.
