Police in Amsterdam have arrested a 23-year-old man with Somalian nationality in connection with the death of 29-year-old Hajar, whose body was found in a suitcase in the Amstel river near the Amsteldijk on October 16th. Hajar had been reported missing by her family on October 5th, and was last seen on October 4th near the RAI convention center in Amsterdam, cycling with an unknown man. That man is now identified as the suspect, who has a permanent residency permit and has lived in the Netherlands since age six. Initially questioned as a witness, he was later designated as a suspect, though the specific reasons remain undisclosed to protect the investigation. Authorities state there is currently no indication that Hajar and the suspect knew each other, and the suspect has a prior record of petty theft. The family of Hajar, represented by the organization Namens de Familie, expressed relief at the arrest but remain in deep mourning, requesting privacy during this difficult time.
