A large-scale hack targeted the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party in Germany, resulting in the theft of over 400,000 emails, including those belonging to party leader Alice Weidel and founder Alexander Gauland. While the AfD confirms the breach, stating data was copied from inactive accounts, Stern magazine reports emails date from 2014 to September 2023. This stolen data includes documents like ID photos, bank statements, member lists, totaling approximately 49,000 documents. Hackers have already released nearly 60,000 searchable emails categorized from misconduct to potentially criminal activities. Disturbing revelations within the leaked emails suggest issues such as Nazi flags and drug sales at an information stand in Bottrop, along with Christmas cards displaying swastikas and Nazi salutes from a Lippe chapter leader. Germany’s domestic intelligence agency classifies the AfD as partially extremist, citing widespread xenophobia, racism, and antisemitism within the party.
