Six young cellists representing the United States, South Korea, China, and Switzerland have secured their places in the semifinals of the Cello Section of the 2026 George Enescu International Competition. The successful candidates emerged after completing the first two rounds of the competition, held at the National University of Music Bucharest. This year’s competition features a remarkably talented pool of musicians, including 14-year-old Seojin Jung from South Korea, demonstrating exceptional skill at a young age. The remaining semifinalists represent a diverse range of musical backgrounds and promise a compelling continuation of the competition. The Enescu Competition is renowned for showcasing the next generation of classical music talent. Further rounds will test the musicians’ abilities with increasingly complex repertoire. The semi-final performances are anticipated to be a highlight of the prestigious event.
