VVD leader Yesilgöz has affirmed her intention to lead the party again in the next elections, speaking clearly about her ambitions following a VVD meeting in Veghel. Despite recent criticism regarding the party's direction and recent compromises made under pressure from Pro and unions—particularly concerning cabinet plans pushed by Jetten—Yesilgöz maintains she is the logical choice to lead. Concerns have arisen among VVD members who feel the party conceded too quickly to Klaver’s demands and over changes to wealth tax regulations (box 3). Yesilgöz acknowledges the criticism is unwelcome, but believes media coverage is disproportionate and internal unrest is common in any party through the years. She described a recent gathering with critical VVD members from Noord-Brabant as "very good," where she and Brekelmans addressed questions from around 150 members and dismissed perceptions of the VVD pursuing a leftist agenda.
