Physiotherapists pledged to ensure patient safety, maintain high professional competence through continued training, uphold professional secrecy and hygiene, and provide adapted care based on scientific and humane principles. A key message was the need for Cameroon to update its regulations to reflect the World Health Organization’s 2016 recognition of physiotherapy as a medical discipline, not a paramedical one. Experts emphasized the importance of neuro-rehabilitation following strokes, advocating for neuro-musculation and neuroplasticity approaches rather than traditional massage, highlighting the brain’s complex functions, likened to a map of Yaoundé. The event also signified a push to change perceptions and improve physiotherapy’s standing within the Cameroonian healthcare system.
