Today marks World Humanitarian Day, recognizing the dedication of aid organizations and volunteers assisting millions in crisis situations worldwide. The United Nations initiated this day in 2008 to honor those who often risk their lives to help others. Last year saw a record number of attacks against humanitarian workers, with over 900 incidents reported and a tragic 350 fatalities. UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the increasing danger of providing assistance, noting it is now more perilous than ever before. Beyond physical threats, aid workers face obstacles like funding cuts, access restrictions, disinformation campaigns, and declining public trust. These challenges hinder their ability to deliver vital support to those in need, underscoring the urgent need for increased protection and support.
