Residents in Dakar, Rufisque, and Thiès, Senegal are experiencing water shortages ranging from low pressure to complete outages. The national water company, SEN’EAU, attributes the disruptions to a surge in demand driven by a current heatwave, compounded by challenges in supplying high-rise buildings. A major break in a key pipeline transporting water from Lake Guiers, caused by third-party work, has significantly worsened the situation. Additional issues stem from malfunctions at water production facilities due to recent strong winds and rainfall impacting borehole areas. SEN’EAU has implemented emergency measures, including water tanker deliveries to the hardest-hit areas, and aims to restore full supply within 24 hours for all neighborhoods. The company is working to repair the damaged pipeline and address the production facility issues to normalize water distribution.
