A video circulating online, purporting to show farewell celebrations for Lionel Messi in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been debunked as misleading. The footage, which depicts jubilant fans in the streets of the capital city, is authentic but dates back to 2022. It actually captures the celebrations following Argentina’s victory at the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar. Fact-checkers at Fast Check have labeled the content as "#Engañoso" (deceptive). The video’s recent resurfacing led to its misidentification as being related to Messi’s recent farewell match. This highlights the potential for past footage to be presented out of context, particularly on social media. The celebrations shown are specifically those that occurred when the Argentinian football team won the World Cup in Qatar.
