Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade is proposing the early separation of the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) from Vietnam Electricity (EVN). The proposal suggests transferring EVNNPT to a different ministry or governmental body for management. This move aims to ensure fairness, transparency, and to support the development of a competitive electricity market in Vietnam. Officials believe independent management will prevent EVN from maintaining a monopoly on power transmission. The restructuring is intended to create a more level playing field for all participants in the electricity sector. This change is expected to foster greater efficiency and encourage investment in Vietnam’s power infrastructure. The Ministry believes this separation is crucial for the long-term health and competitiveness of Vietnam’s energy landscape.
