Veteran Pakistani politician Javed Hashmi and three of his sons-in-law have been booked in four separate cases of alleged electricity theft in Multan. The cases were registered following complaints by the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), alleging the use of loops to tamper with electricity meters. Each FIR details a similar method of theft and estimates financial losses to Mepco ranging from Rs245,600 to Rs249,100 per meter. Police filed the reports on July 17th under Section 462J of the Pakistan Penal Code, seizing the meters in question. Hashmi publicly acknowledged the charges on social media, stating he is prepared for arrest and will not seek bail, dismissing the accusations as politically motivated. No arrests have been made as of yet, according to Hashmi’s grandson.
