José Furtado has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Executive Commission of the Banco Comercial e de Investimentos (BCI), Mozambique’s commercial and investment bank, following approval by the Bank of Mozambique. Furtado returns to BCI after previously serving on its board between 2013 and 2020, bringing over 30 years of financial sector experience gained internationally. The new leadership team, including Raúl António Correia Saraiva de Almeida, George Lenon Ibraimo Mandawa, and others, is expected to assume their roles in the coming weeks. Furtado stated his intention to build upon the bank’s existing reputation and strengthen its ability to serve customers and contribute to Mozambique’s development. BCI has identified client service, financial inclusion, national economic strengthening, and sustainable development as key priorities under the new leadership. This appointment is considered strategic for Mozambique’s national financial sector.
