Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) spent 529 billion bolivars on training and accrediting electoral witnesses, raising concerns over potential mismanagement of funds. An investigation by La Silla Vacía revealed that tens of billions of bolivars in spending lacked justification. Specifically, the CNE produced 20-page training manuals at a cost of 160,000 bolivars each, sparking accusations of excessive expenditure. The scale of the spending is disproportionate and suggests a significant waste of public resources. This comes at a time when Venezuela is facing economic hardship, making the allocation of such funds particularly sensitive. The findings are prompting calls for greater transparency and accountability within the electoral body.
