Following earthquakes in La Guaira, Venezuela, a McDonald’s restaurant in Caraballeda was looted. Subsequently, a team of 80 volunteer healthcare professionals, led by surgeon Fernando Jaimes, repurposed the fast-food location into a functioning field hospital. The improvised hospital features triage, a pharmacy, a treatment room, a psychological support area, and communal sleeping quarters. Additionally, a veterinary clinic, staffed by specialist Sebastián Ures and 18 professionals, has treated over 400 animals impacted by the disaster. This McDonald’s has become the most active medical facility in the affected region, providing critical care in the aftermath of the earthquake. The conversion highlights the urgent need for, and ingenuity of, disaster response efforts in the area.
