Following the death of its national president Anicet Ekane, the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (Manidem) has appointed Valentin Dongmo as its new leader. The announcement was made on July 30, 2026, after a meeting of the party’s steering committee on June 13th in Douala. Dongmo will be supported by two deputies, Mbappe Toto and Evariste Diabe, and a 12-member bureau including five secretaries responsible for organization, training, communication, finance, and external relations. The new leadership aims to continue Manidem’s core ideology of achieving genuine independence for Cameroon, denouncing colonial agreements. A key focus will also be advocating for the unconditional release of all political prisoners in the country. The party hopes this new bureau will inject fresh momentum into its political efforts.
