The leader of the Tren de Aragua gang, Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, also known as Nino Guerrero, was killed in a joint operation between the United States and Venezuela. The operation took place in southeastern Bolivar state, Venezuela, according to the Venezuelan Ministry of Communications. US officials described the killing as a targeted strike and a warning to other “narco-terrorists” operating in Latin America. Tren de Aragua, founded in Venezuela, is a designated terrorist organization with operations extending to Colombia, Peru, and Chile. Guerrero Flores faced racketeering, drug, and firearms charges in New York, accused of transforming the gang into a transnational criminal enterprise. The US released video footage of the strike, showing an explosion at a building believed to be linked to the gang. Officials state the operation aims to dismantle the gang’s operations and eliminate safe havens for its members.
