The United States is threatening "devastating" counter-measures if the European Union moves forward with plans to limit market access for companies like Elon Musk’s SpaceX. According to the US Ambassador to the European Union, Andrew Puzder, these potential measures are in response to a European Commission proposal to reserve certain frequencies for mobile satellite services exclusively for European companies. This would reduce the frequencies available to non-European firms. The EU aims to strengthen its technological sovereignty and reduce reliance on US technology, citing concerns about the unpredictability of former President Trump. SpaceX has already criticized the EU’s plans, arguing they jeopardize satellite support for Ukraine, which relies on SpaceX’s Starlink network for military communications and drone operation. Recent reports indicate the White House directed SpaceX to limit Starlink drone speeds in Ukraine to a maximum of 160 kilometers per hour, down from 500, impacting battlefield operations.
