The US administration has publicly released the contents of a 14-point memorandum of understanding proposed to Iran. The agreement, titled “Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” centers on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s commitment to dismantle its nuclear weapons program. In exchange, the US proposes easing economic sanctions if Iran improves its behavior. Key provisions include a complete cessation of hostilities on all fronts, mutual respect for territorial integrity, and a commitment to negotiate a peace treaty within 60 days. The US would lift all obstacles, including a naval blockade, within 30 days of the memorandum’s signing, restoring shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to pre-conflict levels. Furthermore, the US plans to withdraw military forces from the region 30 days after a final agreement and envisions a $300 billion investment plan, with regional partners, for Iran’s reconstruction and economic development.
