The White House announced on September 28, 2026, President Donald Trump’s nomination of Christian Jové Ehrhardt as the next Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Cameroon. The nomination, published on the White House website and echoed by the US Department of State, is pending confirmation by the US Senate. The Ambassadorial post in Yaoundé has been vacant since January 17, 2026, following the departure of Christopher J. Lamora, with Chargé d'Affaires John G. Robinson currently leading the mission. Ehrhardt is already familiar with Cameroon, having been decorated by the country and previously serving there, earning the rank of Knight of the Order of Valor in 2018. His career includes postings in Algeria, Central African Republic, Sudan, Chad, Haiti, Libya, and Iraq, and he currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. If confirmed, Ehrhardt will focus on finalizing a migration agreement between Washington and Yaoundé. He led a US delegation to Yaoundé, Gabon, and Togo earlier in 2026 to discuss migration cooperation.
