The United States has designated UK-based Palestine Action as a “specially designated global terrorist” organization and imposed sanctions, alleging support for terrorism. This move follows a similar ban by the British government, which Palestine Action is currently appealing. The group, founded in 2020, has focused on disrupting Israel-linked defense companies like Elbit Systems in Britain. Palestine Action defends its actions as efforts to disrupt the “Israeli war machine” and save lives, criticizing the designations as attempts to suppress dissent and freedom of speech. The US action also targeted Italy-based Autistici/Inventati and the transnational group Masar Badil, linked to the existing US-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. This decision aligns with former President Trump’s policy of designating “far-left” groups as terrorist entities.
