High-level delegations from the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan convened at a summit in Burgenstock, Switzerland, to finalize the Islamabad Memorandum. The US team, including Vice President JD Vance and Jared Kushner, met with Iranian negotiators led by Bagher Ghalibaf and Abbas Araghchi. Pakistan, represented by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, played a central mediating role, alongside Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. A notable moment occurred when VP Vance publicly praised Field Marshal Munir, stating he had communicated with him more than anyone else in recent months, and expressed affection for Pakistan. Prime Minister Sharif also showcased his German language skills during the summit. The talks, held above Lake Lucerne, generated significant media attention and provided rare insight into the diplomatic process.
