The United States and Cameroon officially launched a joint technical secretariat in Yaoundé on October 6, 2026, to oversee a bilateral health agreement signed in December 2025. The initiative, spearheaded by Chargé d'Affaires John G. Robinson and Minister Manaouda Malachie, marks a shift in US-Cameroonian health cooperation towards a more sustainable partnership. Notably, the implementation plan was entirely developed under Cameroonian leadership, a first for this collaboration. Washington aims to support the transition of US-funded health programs towards complete autonomy for Cameroon by 2030. Yaoundé intends to solidify gains in combating HIV, malaria, and bolstering its health system while asserting its health sovereignty. The joint secretariat will ensure daily coordination of health MoU implementation, focused on delivering concrete results for Cameroonians.
