Uruguayan authorities have placed five individuals in pre-trial detention following the seizure of 400 kilograms of narcotics in the Artigas department. The drugs, comprised of 300 kilograms of cocaine and 100 kilograms of crack cocaine base, were recovered during “Operation Polux.” Law enforcement officials discovered the illicit substances after they were dropped from a small airplane. Two other individuals connected to the operation have been handed over to the judicial system for further processing. The operation represents a significant drug interdiction effort in the region. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the trafficking network and identify other involved parties. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the origin or intended destination of the drugs.
