The president of the University of Oulu, Arto Maaninen, has resigned following allegations of sexual harassment. An investigation, conducted by a law firm and reported by Helsingin Sanomat, confirmed inappropriate, sexually suggestive behavior towards a university employee during a work trip’s informal evening event. The investigation included interviews with the individual who reported the incident, the affected employee, and Maaninen himself. The report explicitly states the behavior was, at minimum, verbally sexual in nature. The university commissioned the investigation to determine the facts surrounding the incident. Maaninen’s departure marks the outcome of this internal review and the substantiated claims of misconduct.
