The University of Athens (EKPA) has become the first university in Greece to install automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in every building on its campuses. This initiative aims to enhance safety and ensure a rapid response to medical emergencies within the university community. The AEDs were donated in memory of Ioanna Andreadou, a Pharmacology Professor in the University’s Pharmacy Department. The donation provides crucial life-saving equipment readily available throughout the university’s facilities. This move underscores a commitment to student and staff wellbeing by proactively addressing potential cardiac arrest situations. University officials state the installation is complete and the devices are now operational. The university hopes this initiative will serve as a model for other institutions across the country.
