An underwater habitat named Vanguard has been successfully deployed and is now resting 17 meters below the surface in the Tennessee Reef area. The project is spearheaded by British technology company DEEP, aiming to create an environment for scientists to live and work underwater for extended periods—weeks or even months. This venture seeks to replicate the long-duration research capabilities currently enjoyed by astronauts in space. The habitat’s placement allows researchers to bypass the limitations of traditional diving, eliminating the need for frequent resurfacing. This innovative approach promises to significantly advance marine research and understanding of the underwater world. DEEP hopes Vanguard will become a hub for long-term observation and experimentation. The habitat represents a significant step toward sustained underwater presence.
