Ulaanbaatar city officials have completed the installation of drainage lines in ten of seventeen prioritized locations prone to significant flooding. The project initially planned for nineteen sites, but two were postponed due to design conflicts with existing infrastructure. Work is currently underway on the remaining seven locations, with 330 meters of pipeline recently completed near the Khunnu 2222 district, including pedestrian pathway restoration. Officials addressed recent online misinformation claiming flooding in Khunnu 2222, confirming no such event occurred and urging citizens to avoid spreading false reports. The city allocated 26.5 billion Mongolian Tugrik for new drainage infrastructure, alongside 1 billion Tugrik for maintenance and repairs to existing systems. The initiative aims to improve the capital’s capacity to manage heavy rainfall and prevent urban flooding. A previously circulated video depicting flooding in the area was identified as originating from 2023.
