New automated air quality monitoring stations have been installed in Ulaanbaatar city and the centers of 21 aimags across Mongolia. The project, completed in collaboration between Mongolia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and South Korea’s Ministry of Environment and Environmental Corporation, was funded by an $8.9 million grant between 2023 and 2026. These stations will continuously measure pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter, ozone, and carbon monoxide, as well as meteorological indicators. Citizens can now access real-time data through the agaar.gov.mn website. Previously, analysis focused solely on weather conditions; now, the public will have access to air quality forecasts. This represents a significant advancement in environmental monitoring and public health awareness in Mongolia.
