A Ukrainian military-civilian organization based in Kharkiv has been working since April 2022 to locate missing soldiers and facilitate prisoner exchanges with Russia. Led by Serhiy Chebyšev, the organization’s eastern branch focuses on the sensitive task of bringing Ukrainian soldiers home. Since its inception, the group has successfully coordinated 76 prisoner swaps between the two countries. These efforts have resulted in the return of 9,613 Ukrainian soldiers to their homeland. The organization plays a critical role in a deeply challenging aspect of the ongoing war. The work is particularly vital given the difficult conditions faced by prisoners of war.
