Uganda’s Special Forces Command (SFC) has publicly disassociated itself from Yonasan Tibenderana, a man recently arrested for alleged extortion. The arrest occurred at the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) offices in Kololo. According to Captain Julius Kabandize, the SFC’s public information officer, Tibenderana is not currently serving in the military and has no affiliation with the Special Forces Command. The SFC released a statement clarifying that Tibenderana does not represent their unit. This distancing comes after reports identified him as a “Captain,” leading to potential confusion about his background. Authorities are investigating the extortion allegations further, and the SFC sought to firmly establish its non-involvement in the alleged criminal activity. The matter is drawing attention to security protocols at the NIRA offices in Kololo.
