Uganda’s National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) is experiencing increased pressure to provide breeding livestock to farmers participating in the Parish Development Model (PDM). The surge in demand signals a significant potential impact on the nation’s agricultural sector in the 2026/2027 financial year. NAGRC&DB aims to bolster support for ordinary livestock farmers by doubling its current output. A recent media visit to the Kasolwe stock farm in Kamuli district highlighted the preparations underway to meet this growing need. The increased demand is directly linked to the PDM initiative, focused on empowering farmers. This pressure necessitates expanded efforts to ensure sufficient breeding stock is available to participants. The initiative’s success hinges on readily accessible, quality livestock for farmers nationwide.
