President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has urged the nation to cease exporting raw materials and instead prioritize investment in local processing and manufacturing. This call to action is central to Uganda’s ambitious goal of increasing its economy tenfold, reaching a $500 billion valuation by the year 2040. The directive was delivered through a speech read by Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Minister Sanjay Tanna. Museveni’s focus is on bolstering internal capabilities to maximize the economic benefits derived from Uganda’s resources. This strategy aims to transform Uganda from a primarily export-based economy reliant on raw materials to one centered around value-added products. The initiative reflects a commitment to sustainable economic development and increased national wealth within Uganda. This represents a significant shift in economic policy for the East African nation.
