Hotel owners in the Bunyoro sub-region of Uganda are continuing to await the disbursement of Shs102 billion in government funding. This funding was initially promised earlier in the year to facilitate necessary upgrades to accommodation facilities. The improvements are intended to prepare the region, specifically Hoima, for the influx of visitors expected during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. The government recognized the need to enhance lodging options in Bunyoro to adequately host AFCON participants and spectators. Currently, hoteliers are in a state of anticipation, hoping for the funds to arrive soon to begin the renovation and expansion projects. The delay is causing concern as preparation time for the major sporting event is finite. The promised investment signals Uganda’s commitment to hosting a successful AFCON tournament.
