The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved €155.99 million (approximately $180 million) in funding to upgrade Arua Airport in Uganda’s West Nile sub-region. Currently the nation’s second-busiest airport, Arua serves a region abundant in agricultural products, tourism opportunities, and mineral resources. The project aims to transform Arua Airport into a fully-fledged international airport, enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic growth. The upgrade is expected to boost trade, tourism, and investment in the West Nile region and beyond. This investment signifies a commitment to improving Uganda’s infrastructure and regional integration. The funding will support significant improvements to the airport’s facilities and capacity. The project is anticipated to unlock the economic potential of the surrounding area.
