Facing increasing deforestation due to charcoal demand, Ugandan communities are discovering innovative solutions by repurposing previously discarded materials. A Ugandan woman is leading the charge, transforming shea waste – a byproduct of shea butter production – into a viable source of clean energy. This initiative addresses both the environmental concerns surrounding tree loss and provides an alternative fuel source. By assigning value to what was once considered waste, the project offers economic opportunities while simultaneously protecting indigenous trees. The approach highlights a sustainable circular economy model, beneficial for both the environment and local livelihoods.
