Erias Lukwago, former Kampala Lord Mayor and leader of the People’s Front for Freedom, will be tried in the High Court for misprision of treason. This follows the completion of investigations by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Lukwago was committed to the High Court by Makindye Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera on Thursday. Simultaneously, his request to travel abroad for medical treatment was denied by the court. The charges stem from unspecified involvement related to treason, though details remain limited. This development signals an escalation in legal pressure against a prominent opposition figure in Uganda. Further details surrounding the case and the reasons for denying medical travel are expected to emerge during the High Court proceedings.
