Uganda is being urged to continue oil exploration even as it nears “First Oil” from projects like Tilenga and Kingfisher. Experts emphasize the importance of looking beyond current developments, including the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and the Refinery, to ensure sustained oil production in the future. Accelerating new exploration is seen as vital for maximizing the economic advantages stemming from Uganda’s oil resources. This proactive approach will help Uganda fully utilize its potential and avoid a decline in output once initial fields mature. The country needs to maintain a forward-looking perspective to secure long-term energy security and economic growth. Failing to explore beyond the initial phase could limit the overall benefits realized from its oil discoveries.
