The Ministry of Works and Transport in Uganda reports that a significant number of taxis have failed recent mechanical fitness tests. Out of 531 taxis inspected at Namanve and Kawanda, a concerning 423 were deemed to be in dangerous mechanical condition. This leaves only 108 taxis, or 20.3 percent, passing the inspection. The results raise serious questions about the safety standards of public transport vehicles operating on Uganda’s roads. Authorities are now addressing the issues uncovered during the inspections. The findings highlight the need for more frequent and rigorous vehicle maintenance checks to ensure passenger safety. The details emerged from a report by Uganda’s Ministry of Works and Transport.
