The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has initiated a study focused on smartphone usage within the country. This assessment aims to understand current penetration rates, device costs, and barriers to access as Uganda strives for 100% national network coverage by 2030. The study will analyze how Ugandans utilize mobile phones, with a particular emphasis on smartphones, and the impact of this technology. Findings will inform policies and strategies to enhance digital inclusion across the nation. The UCC hopes this data will identify gaps in accessibility and affordability hindering wider smartphone adoption. Ultimately, this initiative supports Uganda’s broader goal of expanding connectivity for all citizens. The study’s results are expected to guide future investment and development in the telecommunications sector.
