Twenty-five individuals with sickle cell disease in Uganda have received free hip replacement surgery at Mulago National Referral Hospital. The surgeries addressed osteonecrosis, a debilitating condition caused by insufficient blood flow to bone tissue. These life-improving operations were performed as part of a free surgical camp that concluded on Friday. Dr. Philip Kasirye led the effort at Mulago National Referral Hospital. The initiative aimed to alleviate the pain and mobility issues associated with osteonecrosis in sickle cell patients. This represents a significant intervention for those affected by this condition in Uganda. The surgeries were provided at no cost to the patients.
