The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has explained the recent surge in fuel prices within Uganda, citing a combination of international and domestic factors. According to UNOC Chief Executive Officer Proscovia Nabbanja, global supply disruptions are significantly impacting costs. Additionally, the depreciation of the Uganda shilling against other currencies is contributing to the increased prices at the pump. A newly introduced duty of 200 Uganda Shillings per unit in the current financial year is also a contributing factor. These combined elements have created a challenging environment for fuel affordability in Kampala, Uganda and across the country. UNOC presented these explanations while addressing a relevant committee. The situation highlights Uganda's vulnerability to external economic pressures.
