The Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) is improving its diagnostic capabilities with the arrival of new surgical equipment for gastrointestinal scans. Previously, patients travelled long distances to Kampala only to be referred to private facilities due to a lack of necessary tools at the UCI. This created a significant care gap and financial burden for those seeking treatment. The new equipment will enable the institute to perform urgent scans in-house, reducing delays and improving patient access to timely diagnoses. This advancement addresses a longstanding issue and promises better care for cancer patients across Uganda. Parliamentarians were involved in facilitating this vital acquisition for the institute. The move signifies a step forward in strengthening cancer care within the public health system.
