A serious multi-vehicle accident on the N48 near Zuidwolde resulted in the deaths of two truck drivers this afternoon. The incident, involving three trucks and three passenger cars, occurred around 3:15 PM, according to RTV Drenthe. Emergency services responded with a significant presence, including multiple fire trucks, ambulances, and a trauma helicopter. Debris from one of the trucks, including household waste, littered the roadway, and substantial damage was reported to the asphalt and guardrails. As a result, the N48 is closed in both directions between the Hoogeveen junction and Zuidwolde, with traffic being diverted via the N34 and N36. Rijkswaterstaat anticipates completing cleanup and repairs by tomorrow morning, at which time the road will reopen.
